9UC encouraged me via PM to post an introduction, so here it is:
First of all, I live in Western North Carolina and have been shooting and hunting for over 50 years - although I don't hunt anymore.
I carry either a Ruger LCP in an Uncle George wallet holster (eight rear pants pocket) or a Ruger LC9S is either a Winthrop leather pancake belt holster or a Foxx tuckable IWB holster - which gun and how is dependent upon weather and what I need to wear. I also have a N82 Tactical holster for the LC9S - it is the most comfortable IWB holster that I have ever owned. I don't use it a lot for no good explainable reason.
A few months ago I purchased a CZ-83 in 380ACP as a fairly small carry with higher capacity (13+1). I really liked its size and it was comfortable to carry in a leather pancake holster. Unfortunately, the CZ-83 had an occasional feed reliability issue and, for that reason, I didn't want to carry it and sold it. I really liked the size and some research showed me that the Bersa Ultra Compact 9 dimensions were very close the CZ-83 a little heavier but very close. Additional research convinced me that the Bersa Ultra Compact 9 was a solid, dependable and accurate gun - so I purchased one. It arrived yesterday and I haven't even taken it to the range yet - Monday!
Now I am prowling for holsters. As you know, they are harder to find for the Bersa Ultra Compact 9. I have purchased the Vega pancake from Eagle Imports largely because of the 20% discount card that was in the box. It isn't exactly what I want but I'll give it a whirl. I prefer an open top leather pancake holster (like my LC9S holster), meaning that I don't like its retention strap. My CZ-83's pancake holster had the retention strap and, while I didn't like the strap, I didn't hate it. The MASTER'S brand pancake leather holster is closer to what I want but it lacks the leather riser between the slide and my body. I like the Winthrop holster because it has all of my desired features BUT they don't make one for the Bersa UC 9.
I'm sitting on the fence about a IWB for now. Maybe an Aliengear 2.0 or a StealthGear Onyx - or, who knows, maybe another Foxx IWB - I've enjoyed the one that I have. The Aliengear 2.0 and StealthGear Onyx are geared more to people living in hot climates where sweat is an issue and I live in the mostly cool mountains of North Carolina. Their softness, however, does make them sound comfortable.
I purchase very little ammo, preferring to use my own reloads. I shoot about 200-to-300 rounds a week - mostly 9mm Luger.
